Psycho is a 1960 American psychological thriller film directed by Alfred Hitchcock and produced by Hitchcock and Saul Bass. The screenplay by Joseph Stefano was based on the 1959 novel of the same name by Robert Bloch. The film stars Anthony Perkins, Janet Leigh, and John Gavin. Leigh won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress for her performance, and the film was honored with four other Golden Globes: Best Supporting Actress (Vera Miles), Best Director, Best Cinematography, and Best Film.

The Shining is a 1980 psychological horror film directed by Stanley Kubrick. Based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name, it tells the story of Jack Torrance, a writer and recovering alcoholic who takes a job as an off-season caretaker at the isolated Overlook Hotel in order to be able to write. He, along with his wife Wendy and their son Danny, travel to the Colorado Rockies to take up residence. But Danny has a “ shining “ — an extrasensory ability that allows the boy to see things from the past and the future, and the hotel has a long history of tragedies and murders.
